Algerian Full-Stack Developer

Hi everyone,

I'm an Algerian software developer currently living in Algeria, and I'm considering applying for software engineering jobs in Germany without relocating first.

My background:

BSc in Computer Science

MSc in Data Science from the UK, Merit

5+ years of software development experience

Full-Stack Developer

Mainly Laravel/PHP + Nuxt.js

Currently practicing NestJS for backend development

Experience with Node.js, Python, React, TypeScript, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, AWS, Docker, and CI/CD

Currently around A2/B1 in German

For developers who were living outside Germany when they got their German job:

How realistic would you say my profile is for getting interviews and eventually an offer from German companies while applying from Algeria?

I'm mainly interested in hearing from people who have actually gone through this process from outside Germany. I'd also appreciate any advice on what helped you stand out to German employers and what the job search was like.

Welcome to the forum!

Your chances greatly depend on how good is your German (without language skills, you will be limited to a few, niche jobs in field where there is a severe shortage of skilled manpower in Germany - write job applications in German if at all possible!) and of course your visa status (if you have a work permit for Germany, you have far better chances than without).

Applying from abroad of course reduces your chances further. Maybe you can come for an extended visit (minimum a month, better three) and apply beforehand, mentioning to the companies that "I will be in Germany from XX to YY, so that would be a good opportunity to meet in person."
