nichollsfamilyaddress

Reform are not in power (yet) but the proposed ending of ILR is a big worry.  What are your thoughts on how this might impact current spouse visa requirements.

Let's not get too worried just yet- The next GE is a few years away. A lot can happen in a day, week, month... in the world of politics.

Reform removing ILR, never heard about that.   That's madness.  How is it going to work then?  People with the right paperwork are entitled.

Why do people like Farage think immigration is the biggest problem facing the country?  It's like a broken record - blame it all on foreigners "stealing" UK jobs.  Gimme a break.

I rank Russia/Ukraine war, the US/Trump's mercurial trade wars, the cost of living and rejoining the EU as far more important than if your UK neighbour is Polish builder or if a Jamaican healthcare professional is working at the local hospital treating people.  Thank god for them coming to help.

Like many countries, the UK needs immigration as the birth rate is declining.

I agree.  Who wants ICE style brutality on the streets of the UK?

What a load of rubbish.  Just more extremism Trump style.  Utter vote loser.

Who are they appealing to?  Daily Mail readers cum pensioners.  Meh.

The vast majority of the UK population are in no way extremist.  People are in fact (and generally) much more reasonable than the division mongers would have us believe.

Thank you both. I certainly hope that reform do not get into power.  Latest polls seem to indicate they would be short of an overall majority.  Could see them and the tories hooking up though. As you say, a long time to go yet but Labour need to get their act together and fast.  The local elections in May could be a long night for them.

Supposedly they are looking at replacing ILR with a renewable 5 year visa.

I certainly do share your concerns, although it will not have an impact on my life personally, I still have family living in the UK. Maybe people will have a rude awakening if Reform wins because they will be sorry if they do what they say they are going to do. What bothers me is all the lies that are being said, and people believe them, just like Brexit. I still don't understand how they can support a man who spends more time in America than in his own constituency and is rarely in the HoC to vote, just like when he was an MEP.

Farage is like a wannable Trump.  More showman than substance.  It'll be one of those buyer's (voter's) regret things.  We'll get fascism-lite and have to tolerate it for a few years until everyone realises what a con artist he and his cronies are.    It's the same where I live (Hungary).   And being British with a HU partner, if we ever had to leave HU because we're so anti-Orban, the UK with its anti-immigrant feelings whipped up be extremism, would be off the list.   Only country we both have a right to live in is Ireland.  However, right now, all things considered,  it seems we're not rich enough.

Hi again.

To answer your specific question, I've just checked the Reform Party website as to what they actually said about the ILR visa.  They say " For those who are not yet eligible for citizenship or who don't wish to become British citizens, there will continue to be a spousal/partner visa.".  You can read this yourself at the following link.

I hope this helps.
