Access to maternity benefits for expat partner

lottekmoller

Hi,

My American partner and I (Danish) have applied for family reunification in Denmark (as cohabitating partners) and are waiting for a decision.

In the meantime, we are planning on starting a family soon. We are searching for information about what the requirements are for my (non-EU) partner to be able to access maternity benefits (barselsdagpenge). Is it a requirement that we are married?

Could my partner, under the condition that we are granted the family reunification, have the right to maternity benefits as a member of an a-kasse if the 'standard' requirements are met - even if we are not married?

Are there any particular requirements that we should be mindful of?

Please share links for where we might be able to get more information.

Thanks!

Your partner are only entitled to barselsdagpenge if she have worked 13 week or 120 hours befor her maternity leave.
