Okay, no political (or moral) opinions from me but I'd just like to say that I'm surprised to learn that such a discussion is taboo on this site while aiding and abetting the sale and purchase of stolen property is apparently perfectly acceptable. To a retired lawyer, it does seem a very topsy-turvy situation...

With respect there are plenty of things topsy-turvy in every country...and that includes laws too.

There are indeed!

However, offhand I can't think of any country other than the internationally unrecognised and self-styled "TRNC" where the buying and selling of stolen real estate is permitted to take place openly. 

UK citizens are potentially breaking several UK laws by so doing, as are those aiding and abetting them (mentioning no names..) and those conspiring to do so (British property brokers, for example). There's also the issue of what might happen as and when reunification eventually happens: I can't see the financial woes of foreign buyers of illegally-purchased property getting much attention during the negotiations, or when the rightful owners turn up to repossess it.

As promised, I won't go into the moral issues involved; anyone indulging in this sort of business is probably already a lost cause on that score.....

Indeed but that's a decision each person makes in full knowledge of history and potential future issues....

Of course - but the question is: do we, as a community, condone the selling and buying of stolen property? Or do we just claim to be a conduit for such activity, while choosing to turn a blind eye to it? We have a list of what isn't allowed within these hallowed portals, most of them pretty minor/neutral in the scheme of things, but not a single mention of what is, at the very least, morally repugnant to most thinking people who are aware of the real situation in the illegally occupied north of the island.

If and when I have Cypriot neighbours in Cyprus, having had many (and one girlfriend) in London, would I feel comfortable telling them that I'm part of an internet community that condones, and indeed encourages, the selling and buying of property that belongs to them, and where perhaps their murdered family's blood was spilled? I count myself as pretty broadminded but even I can't stomach THAT idea ...

I don't think this forum condones anything of the sort, but having said that  I've not looked for the evidence.. is there any?.  In fact the owners and designers only had Cyprus  as a forum... they thought long and hard about including North Cyprus on the site.. but only as a means of getting targeted responses to questions .. it has finally happened after a long long time....6 years in fact. However even during that time we had a lot of enquiries about the north side but no real input or indeed any objections to the questions being asked. Anyway am not here to defend. I am just saying that it's here to help and for that reason alone. ... To help and guide with real time information for people (from those who have already made the move) who by and large have already made the decision to relocate knowing exactly what happened here and the potential for problems in the future.

There are many other sites and platforms incl social media to discuss those matters ..  and they invariably end in confrontation and we don't want that here...if it did happen there are moderators who will deal with it, but we would rather not have to do so.

The choice to stay is yours at the end of the day. There are no bars on the windows here nor are there locks on the doors.

That's not belittling or ignoring your comments thoughts and feelings ..but best advice I can give you is ...why not private message Julien who owns the site. He and his colleagues may be able to offer a solution.

This forum like every other forum on this site is for helping people relocate with real time information on relocation services, requirements, formalities finances etc etc and to assist in many  other matters once those persons are there.

Greek-Cypriot property usurper remanded by Nicosia District Court

A European Union citizen, whose nationality has not been disclosed, has been remanded in custody for five days by the District Court in Nicosia in connection with a case of usurping Greek-Cypriot property in the occupied areas of the Republic.

The 25 year old man was arrested last night at Paphos airport following a tip off as he was ready to board a plane home. He is being investigated for transactions in regard to property not registered to his name, use of land registered to a Greek-Cypriot refugee and income stemming from illegal activities.

The police headquarters CID has taken over the case, looking into possible accomplices, including buyers, suppliers and other associates in property transactions

Excellent news - let's hope there's a lot more of this in the future!

There needs to be a very firm line drawn in the sand when it comes to profiteering and trading in stolen property, with buyers understanding that they are on very shaky legal ground when they snap up their "bargains".
