Private pool fees

Hi All

How much does it cost to run, maintain a private swimming pool. Electric fees, pumps, general maintenance?

Thanks

Much depends on the following

Doing it yourself or licenced pool technician

Size of pool and type saltwater or chlorinated

Number of users and overall usage

How long you run the pumps during winter and summer

Whether you have an inverter controlled pump or a multi speed pump and it's settings

Whether the property has Solar Or grid

How often you top up with water

Chemicals required ie chlorine tablets or granules, or salt, ph+, ph-, flocculent, algaecide, testing kit etc.

As a very simple guide a pool technician including chemicals will cost between €80-120 per month  for twice a week.

Water usage varies per winter and summer.  But cost likely between  €30-60.per qtr depending on pool size and conditions

Electricity use depends on size of pump, size of pool and daily consumption per season.

Having solar makes a big difference as does a multi speed pump. Base rate per unit without solar is about 31c per unit incl and  assuming a pump of 1-1.5hp and running 4 hrs per day  in winter (so 4-6units) and 6-8hrs per day peak summer (8-12 units)

Chem prices 10kg chlorine about 35-40, 10kg ph+ & ph- about 20-25,......  flocculent and algaecide about 15-20   but only need to use them when absolutely essential.. good water chemistry is essential.for safe use.

Prices and actual timings etc will vary
