Family of 5 relocating from the UK

pickledpeach

Hello everyone, we are a family of 5 planning on relocating once we have sold our house in the UK. My husband is Lucian so myself and my 2 younger children will have citizenship which we are working on now. We plan to live in Gros islet/Cap Estate area as we have family that we want to be close to. We are increasingly concerned about the political direction that the UK is heading and want to give our children a childhood where they are able to be outside freely, grow up on the beach and have a better quality of life than we can give them in the UK now.

My main questions are -

  1. My eldest son who will be 21 when we relocate cannot get citizenship as he is over 18 and from my previous relationship so doesn't qualify the same as my younger sons. Can he keep extending his stay for 2 years until he gets permanent residency? Will he be restricted when he tries to work there?
  2. We will have a deposit for a property from the sale of our UK home, however, to get a mortgage how long do we need to have a salary to qualify or do most people rent first initially? I am setting up my own interior design business on the island working with property developers.
  3. What schools do people recommend? My younger sons will be 9 and 6. Are the private schools worth the fees or are state schools good enough?

We are really excited about this move but I am wanting to find out a bit more before we share the news with family and friends.

Thank you
