Boquete Anyone?

kwik6six

Hello all.

I am an American in Wisconsin. I've been considering becoming an expat and my research is leading me to the Boquete area for the lower temps and humidity than Panama City, plus I just want a quiet peaceful retirement away from the political nightmare and outlandish steady increase in the cost of living here.

I'm seeing Boquete has a large expat population. Are any of you on this site and willing to have a conversation?

Boquete was a very nice place 35 years ago but not now. You'll find plenty of homes for sale by people who want out.

Don't think that Panama is a Mecca of stability. There's many problems and things are getting worse. During the mine riots the road to Boquete was closed for about 6-7 weeks (unless you wanted to walk to David.

Then there was the CSS retirement problems this year. They tore up Bocas del Toro and burned government buildings and vehicles. They had to impose marshall law.

The COVID pandemic. The government used the heaviest hand in all of Latin America on their restrictions.

Just do your research and don't listen to people who are going to make money off your decision. If you want peace and stability go to Uruguay. I'm too old to start over someplace else but if I was starting out that country would be my first choice.

It seems like Boquete is more and more crowded and expensive, but they keep building more things. Utilities have problems. Good luck with driving and parking. I would prefer something south, like Dolega or Potrerillos. Maybe look at Volcan for cooler temperatures and a less congested town. But, it is nice to be within reach of Boquete because there are tons of activities and things to do there.

We live in David, and are happy since we enjoy the warmer temperature.

Come and visit and see how things feel to you. I hear you about the politics and rising costs!!  We're very happy to be out of that scene and can't imagine going back.

When you say cooler temps, how cool do you mean exactly? Well not exactly, more of a range is great.

It's going to vary by elevation - and the entire Boquete area has a pretty significant range of elevations. There are many areas that never require air conditioning and even need heat at night. As you get down into Alto Boquete towards David, the temps are higher, but still not as hot as the sea level temps.

We're looking at a house in Potrerillos and the current homeowner says the temperature is consistently 75 degrees.

We love the Boquete area, but have decided not to settle in Bajo! We have been living in the Dominican Republic for the past five and a half years, so we know we don't want noise! We are looking at homes in Alto Boquete, Dolega, and Potrerillos on Monday.
