Looking at Panama to retire

energyparadigmllc

My wife and I have been researching different countries where we want to retire, and Panama seems to be a top choice for Americans. Coronado appears to be an ideal location for us. We have booked a trip in Feb. 2026 to see what we think. We're wondering if there are any people in the DFW area also looking to retire in Panama. We'd be very interested in connecting with them, as well as any other U.S. folks.

That’s wonderful news! You’re definitely looking in the right place Panama is one of the easiest and most welcoming countries for Americans to retire in. Coronado is beautiful, modern, and has a great mix of locals and expats who’ll make you feel right at home.

If you ever want some advice about the residency process, which areas to explore, or what kind of documentation to bring when you visit, I’d be glad to help. I’ve guided a few people through the same process and can share what to expect before you make the move. Don’t hesitate to reach out — happy to share some insider tips!

Hi West98,

Many thanks for your reply, I have under control all the paperwork and a lawyer for residency. What I am struggling with is somewhere to live in the region until I find a place.  If you have any advice in that direction that would be a great help.

Thank you C

I first came to Panama in 1987 so proceed with caution. Due diligence before you make any moves or life changing decisions is the best policy.

Be careful with listening to anyone who has a financial interest in your move like real estate agents, immigration attorneys, relocation services, etc. They're making money off of you and that's a fact you can't ignore.

Economically things have been in decline and social unrest can be problematic. Unemployment is incredibly high in this country and since it's a service economy AI is going to have a massive impact here and the government--as in mast countries is behind the curve.

Panama, during the pandemic had probably the heaviest handed policies in Latin America.

If I didn't have personal ties and a long history in this country I think that I'd pick someplace else like Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina or Chile.

But stay here a few months and a few places before making any decisions.
