Can I find a 1-bedroom apartment near the beach for $500/month?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to move to the Dominican Republic around August and stay for 1-2 years.

I am looking for a long-term rental and would like to know what realistic local prices are when searching on the ground instead of Airbnb or tourist websites.

My requirements:

* Safe area

* Maximum budget: $500 USD per month

* 1 bedroom apartment

* Clean and well-maintained

* Air conditioning

* Reliable high-speed internet for remote work

* Maximum 15 minutes walking distance to the beach

* Pet-friendly (small Maltese dog)

* For me and my partner

At the moment I am most interested in Las Terrenas and Bayahibe, but I am open to other locations if they offer a better combination of safety, beach access, internet, and affordability.

Are these requirements realistic within a $500/month budget? What areas would you recommend and what prices are people actually paying when renting locally?

Thanks,

Daniel

Welcome to the forums.

Something not on your list is back up power system. If you work remotely it will be mandatory.

Your budget isn't great and it will take work to find.   Really rentals are found with boots on the ground. Rent an air bnb for a week or two near where you want to live and start looking around.  August is a good time to be looking as it's  lower tourist and long term tourist demand.

Las Terrenas is a decent option but I am not up to date on pricing in that area. Hopefully others will have info for you. In addition check out local Facebook groups as they can be helpful.
