Travel from Sosua to Punta Cana??

I was surprised to discover that is NOT easy OR affordable to fly from POP to Punta Cana. I was hoping to meet up with a couple of friends while they vacation in PC but am certainly not willing to pay for a private plane which seems to be close to $1,000 US. Even more to fly commercial, which connects through Miami. From what I have read online driving is not easy either, and very long.

Has anyone driven there before?

Any experience or suggestions?

Driving is very doable, asnis taking the bus system. I left Puerto Plata this morning headed to La Romana. In the rain it took 4.5 hours. then its another hour to Punta Cana.

Bus is 4hours to Santo Domingo, cab to parque Enriquillo and just over 2 hour bus ride to Punta Cana

Ok, sounds doable. But very long. I would lose a day at least in travel. I guess I can wait until they visit Canarete!

Would be so helpful if they had direct flights locally.

We have been teased for years about a local airline... but not to happen.

Good idea on putting it off for them to visit here.

JUST DID IT THIS MONTH JAN. 2015, BY EXPRESS BUS AND CABS BACK AND FORTH . HERE GOES TAKE CARIBE TOUR OR METRO FROM SOUSA TO SANTO DOMINGO (5HOURS) THEN EXPRESSO BAVARO TO PUNTA CANA (4HOURS) I THINK IT IS BEST TO DO THE TRIP OVER 24 HOURS. SPEND A NIGHT IN SANTO DOMINGO (FIND A NICE HOTEL IN THE COLONIAL ZONE $60=90 U.S.). TOTAL COST $100-150 EACH WAY. THE BREAK IN SANTO DOMINGO IS WORTH IT. BRUTAL TO DO IT 11 HOURS STRAIGHT. WORTH THE TRIP. D.R. IS A BIG ISLAND. GREAT VIEWS AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. CHECK THE BUS SCHEDULES AND HOTELS ON LINE. ALSO LOOK AT A MAP . BLESSINGS. SAFE TRAVELS. CIAO FOLKS ALL LOVE.
