What are the do's and don't when hiring a maid?  What is a reputable agency to use for Bravos?

I'm assuming you mean "Bavaro"?

I can't help with that area, but in general, if you can hire from a company you remove yourself from any legal exposure regarding the worker being injured, fired or not showing up for work.  The company would be handling all that, and you wouldn't be on the hook for liquidation, Christmas bonus or severance.  You also wouldn't be the target for any labour dispute with the worker looking to sue for lost wages or getting injured.  This is a huge plus and is often overlooked.

Additionally, do not give out any advances on salaries, and you will be asked repeatedly.  Even if they say you can deduct it from the next pay, this will become a constant issue.  Don't leave expensive items or cash about, don't let them see the inside of your safe if you have one, and don't get overly comfortable with them and start treating them like friends.  So many thefts are done by inside workers and newbies are not aware of the ways of the island yet.  I know this sounds harsh, but if you set boundaries upfront, it makes everything so much easier down the road and avoids resentment and much pain.

Thank you.  And yes I did mean Bavaro.  I am not the best speller.  LOL

I am not sure if there is any agency in that area.  It will cost more to use an agency BUT it will remove you from most risk.

If there is none ask neighbors and friends for referrals.  If its 1 to 2 days a week it is less complicated.  Full time gets much  more complicated.

Understand they are "employees" and subject to the labor laws.
