Santiago / Filtraccion

Hi, I have bought a brand new home in Santiago that I use for Airbnb and it has been doing really well; however, some of my profits has been consistently going to "fixing" my roof. About 1.5 yeas ago I paid a "contractor" for redo my concrete roof and its now leaking again.

Does anyone live in Santiago area that can recommend a good person/company?

I don't know anyone;  but here's a recommendation to beware of here.

You will find some contractors quote you the high end "sand % cement" and order the low grade batch, to take the $$ difference.

You really need to make sure for the roof that you are buying the high end "sand and cement".

Additionally,  what I did it lay down tar paper over the roof by a professional. I then bought the highend whitebase energy saving American brand  roof seleant. It can be costly but its worth in the long run...

You will need someone there to supervise what the contractor is doing.   Otherwise the contractor will attempt to rip you off.

I hate that it sounds like everybody there is dishonest and they cheat and take advantage of anyone not born Dominican. 🥺

@tropicaldaze23

I'm pretty sure that doesn't matter, they will try to cheat anyone.

@tropicaldaze23

Its really not everyone is dishonest. However, there is the significant population that is basically in "economic survival" mode due to many factors. Yes, they are creative, scam, theft,  etc. XPATS are always a high target. After, you live here for awhile you learn the ropes, build trust worthy friends, but even then always have that 1 eye open...

Very disheartening.

@tropicaldaze23

It can be!  It's more about learning how to manage things here.  Trust is never given it's earned!!  And even then you check and double check!

@planner summed it up! The flip side its a great and beautiful country with a lot of positive experiences to have....
