Import tax exemption for household goods?

Your first residency as a non voting expat gives you the ability to bring in a container with certain exemptions.  There are a bunch of rules attached to this so make sure you understand them.

I suggest you consult the shippers from your end. Find one who has done this before and has a customs agent on this end. 

If you used a lawyer for residency ask that lawyer as well

The more i digg into this stuff the more i think there is no exact rule....maybe its like a lottery...if you are lucky you don't have to pay import duty taxes.

There are very specific rules.  That said, hiring the right people to assist, knowing when to "tip" can certainly make things go smoother.

I ship outdoor furniture indoor furniture from NY  ,  my shipper asked what I’m shipping and tell him he gives me a price in 3 weeks it’s in country , what ever duties are owed it on him ….. never had a specific “ tax “ that I had to pay I’m sure his people

We just used Mary Cargo Express in Bushwick. Picked my stuff up from a storage unit in north Jersey and delivered it to Las Terrenas. Three weeks door to door with no surprises. Very happy.
