Volunteer opportunities

Planning on being a Canadian snowbird, and spending approx 2-3 winter months in Dominica WI. I look forward to this new chapter in my retired life. What is important to me  while there, is to develop my social circle and as I currently do this in Canada, I would like to volunteer at the hospital or similar establishment. Are volunteers even a thing in Dominica? What comes to mind is maybe helping with the carnival in February. Anyone know if this is a feasible thing. I know that retirement/nursing homes are not common in the Caribbean, but this would be another option. Thanks in advance.
