Building a house

MauroN

Hi. It depends if you hire a construction company or an architect or a "maestro de obra" (the guy hired by the formers to build), if you hire a maestro, you would need an architect to sign the paperwork, but it's cheaper than he/she doing the hiring and supervising. I have been quoted  $700/m2, can't rememeber what was  included in que quote.

Hello
Anyone know the cost per sq ft to build near Punta Uva area?  I was given an estimate of $300-$400 which sounds extremely high even in todays economic environment. Just started looking at various property in this area of CR and trying to do my due diligence. Thanks

My recommendation is to not do it. From what I hear, Costa Rica is already going through enough over-development, mainly due to the influx of Americans. When and if I move there, my plans are to buy a home or condominium instead of clearing out the beautiful land that's already there. Possibly think about doing that before you want to build there. Costa Rica is already an environmentally friendly country and I think it would be cool to keep it that way. Just my thoughts.

Thank you for the perspective.

Personally, I would purchase a home that is completely finished after you have lived and rented a home allowing time to see if the area & country is right for you.
It is a well know fact that it is very easy to buy in CR...but very difficult to sell, so you would be able to negotiate a better price. And of course, 'cash is king.'
Another thing to take into consideration is that it is said, that 50-60% of those who return home within 3-4 years, and they are desperate to sell. Many homes have been for sale for 7+ years.

Have anyone dealt with Brian McLane, who builds the houses at the development called Altos de Antigua, close to Puriscal? Any pertinent information is highly appreciated.

I did meet this Canadian man once, and have heard many good reports about him. The area where the development is located, is very nice.
