Questions about Herdia, Heredia, CR

Try Atenas. Its outside of the San Jose Metro area (Heredia is not) and some claim that Atenas has the best climate on earth.  Well...   I'm pretty sure they have public transit that will get you to nearby bigger towns for shopping and other needs;  people living there may respond and set me straight on that.  Atenas is close to San Ramon (hospital) and really not that far from the airport and central valley (west) amenities.

I saw many parts of CR before deciding where to plant my gringo feet...  you may want to reconsider one-stop shopping (especially if you haven't even been there)..  and I didn't rent a car either !!!

  If I travel, I use public transit, or I use a taxi....   we even have pirate taxis in rural areas so getting a 'ride' is never impossible (except on xmas??)   I use bus and taxi and it isn't a problem.

Look, Moving is a big deal regardless of your reason for doing so (I jumped ship when I saw things going 'south' during his first 'try' at pretending to be smart enough to do the job)... and I looked around...  a lot. 

But good luck to you... I know age and health make a difference and you are smart to consider an area where proximity to good healthcare institutions is reasonable and convenient.

If the heat is a health issue for you, then wherever you look, check the altitude. There are altitude apps for iOS and android. The higher the cooler; the lower the warmer (and by "warmer" I mean "hot".)

Heredia has a very nice weather, no so hoy as coastal areas or so cold as Monteverde or other highlands. 

I suggest San Isidro de Heredia, for your health is perfect.  Is close to National Park Braulio Carrillo, Air is super clean and surrounded by nature

Hey, forgot to add, you may want to look at a classifieds website called 'Encuentra24' for real estate offerings.  It is far more 'local' and is where Ticos go to look (or a local realtor who isn't flashing an inter'l logo) for properties.  It will, at least, before you come down, give you a general Idea as to what you can get for the money... and note that if the listing has little to no English, it will have a more honest price.  And this is Latin America... negotiating is the norm.  I got my place for less than 1/2 the asking price.  I had a Tico do it for me.... the seller had no idea it was for a Gringo.

The big name real estate organizations with names that you already know and see in the states, are generally only listing properties that are 'aimed' at foreign buyers... you can tell by the way the listing is written, the price, and the amenities included... many properties are built by and for Gringos.  Anything over $250K is out of reach for 99% of Ticos. They tend to list properties closer to the Pacific coast.. where good, convenient, and 24-hour medical care is, for the most part, not located.

The Encuentra website is a little wonky, but you sound like smart guys and I'm sure you'll be able to Navigate it.
