Flooding in Da Nang??

OceanBeach92107

The internet is full of reports that there is severe flooding in Da Nang.

There has been some significant flooding in the rural parts of the metro area as well as flash floods coming out of the nearby mountains and affecting areas nearby.

But many of these reports are actually talking about areas around HỘI AN and greater Quảng Nam.

In the recent realignment of official provinces, "Đà Nẵng" now extends all the way through what was previously called "Quảng Nam", south of the Chu Lai airport and all the way to the border of Quảng Ngãi province.

Even the English language newspaper & website VIETNAM NEWS is showing photos of flooding on the  Thu Bồn river that runs through the heart of Hội An, with headlines and captions calling it "Flooding In Da Nang".

I'm seeing a lot of people on social media freaking out at the site of that flooding, talking about canceling plans to come to Đà Nẵng.

Even at the highest point, the Han River didn't overflow its banks, and all of the major bridges remained intact for traffic.

Yes, there are areas in the center City that sometimes become flooded, mostly due to people using the flood drains as trash receptacles.

But overall, "New Đà Nẵng City" (as the metro area is now being designated) has continued operating without many interruptions, including the airport being open most of the time and fresh markets continuing to provide local food options.
