Anyone know the scoop on the legality of expats flying drones in VN? Especially ones with mounted cameras?

Not widely known, but you need to request permission from the Ministry of Defense to operate a drone in Vietnam, especially with a camera mounted. Sounds like it's not going to be something easy to obtain for hobby use.

And do you live in Vietnam James?

I do and that's the article I was going to post, but he'd already done so.

Here's another one:

Drone Users Breaking Rules

Some countries are now looking to have drones registered.

Yes, I am familiar with the gov't requirement to register and I have read the law as well. But what the law does not state, and what I am being told is that no foreigner can register at all. Was curious if anyone knew anymore about that.

Is there any update for drone permits through flying clubs or permits?  There was the earlier suggestion that sky maps or "no fly zones" were needed or suggest. My wife and I have traveled to the country every year for a couple months at a time.  We have a relative that lives near HCM.  We have never broken any laws but would certainly like to use our drone for photography.  The issue seems to be mired in bureaucracy.
