How much does it cost to live in Vietnam? ($800 USD if you are careful, but $1000 USD to be comfortable)

> accommodation prices ($400/mth)

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.) (6000 dong or about $0.28 USD)

> food prices (your monthly budget) ($250 - 300 USD/mth)

> health prices (about 30 USD per year for insurance and the cost is about $5 to see a doctor at the hospital with the insurance)

> education prices (if you need to pay) unknown

> energy prices (oil, electricity) ($20-30 USD/mth)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone) ($25 USD/mthfor everything)

> price for a good menu in a traditional restaurant ($5 USD per person for Vietnamese restaurant and about $15 USD per person for a Western restaurant)

My answers in brackets. Cost of living is different for everyone. I live on about 1000 USD monthly and i find that somewhat tight, however my girlfriend lives on 200 USD monthly and that is pretty average for Vietnamese.

I found the cost of electrical goods to be more expensive than Western countries. Prices for linen, towels, etc were same as a Western country but the wages were a fifth so was very expensive to set p an apartment with the very basic needs

How much does it cost to live in Vietnam?

> accommodation prices $400 - $700 (depending on building and how good it's furnished)

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc.) cityview bus from pmh-D. 1 $0.75. Public bus $0.25

> food prices (your monthly budget) supermarket - for necessary food (meat and veggies) $100-$150 (very good portions)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance) n/a

> education prices (if you need to pay) daycare in D.7 could cost $300 for foreigner's standards. Local vietnamese daycare $100-$150 (includes food). - if you don't mind your child to learn and grow in a 100% vietnamese environment

> energy prices (oil, electricity) electricity for one a/c $40/month; gas for stove $5/month (a tank of gas cost $15 which I use roughly for 3 months.

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone) - highest internet speed with my provider $20/month. Mobile (prepaid card) $5/month. We use online streams to watch so no cable tv.

accommodation prices (Ho Chi Minh, room in a shared house with private toilet and shower, 250 dollars average for decent but cheap)

Motorbike gas prices: I pay about 2.25 for 3 litres of gas.

> food prices (About USD10 per day if eating out, at home can spend 5-10 dollars)

> health prices: Local hospitals, about 10-20 dollars per visit for minor things. About 50 dollars for moderate problems.

> education prices: Price to study Vietnamese at the University of Social Science: about 117 dollars for one class.
It comes to about 3.50 USD per hour. Need more students at 5pm-7pm mwf or 5-7 Tuesday and thursday to study level 1b, let me know if you want to join with me. We need 5 students minimum after the new year.

> energy prices (I got mine included in the rent which a good idea for a private room in a house)

> common bills (mobile phone - because the internet is included I spend about 15.00$ a month)

> price for a smoothie: 1-2 dollars except international style places.

> price for cinema tickets: From 2.25- 6 dollars.

All prices are in Dong. This is supporting a family of three living in an expat area in HCMC.

There is no budget for this. We only take my son when he needs vaccines or is sick. A consultation fee with my French doctor is 600'000, add that on top of medicine (very cheap) or vaccines (expensive)

Grocery bill: 3,000,000 / month for family of 5 ( big C, Metro, and local roadside markets)
(Limited knowledge of the language facilitates this).

Health insurance/ year for family : 8,000,000 (8 million) via bao biet insurance all inclusive policy

Drink : green tea. - dirt cheap

Internet- 250,000 / month ( unlimited internet, TV, phone ( viettel package)
Call charges extra. Use viber, chatime, skype, face time fir all international calls.

I spend $15 a day on average on food, coffee, leisure, fuel, and a few cans from the shop at night. So that's $450 as a very basic baseline. My house is in a cheaper neighbourhood so $200 pm bills, internet cell phone add upto about $60 per month. Restaurants and pubs cost me about $250 per month, Travel $20 So ballpark figure $980-$1000 usd
