Looking for a Doctor

Phi Long

Can anyone recommend (through experience) a good doctor?

I have a friend from the US. He's had this cold with mucus for the past month now. One day he will feel better, but it eventually comes back in the morning.
We did everything for him from clean the apartment, air conditioners, took him to a Vietnamese doctor where they checked his sinus and gave him pills that obviously didn't work.

I guess I'm looking for an American doctor if there's one available in Saigon.

I had a similar complaint and went to my Western doctor who prescribed a course of seven days of Clarithomycin (strength omitted deliberately)) < http://www.drugs.com/dosage/clarithromycin.html >.

When I went to my VN pharmacist to get the prescription filled she commented on it and said: "So short"?

I contacted the doctor and questioned his prescription and why were VN physicians giving longer treatments. He explained that he was bound to observe the practices of his country legally, he actually agreed with VN practice.

So I suggest that your friend go to a VN pharmacist and ask what other doctors are prescribing - may be he should see a doctor more familiar with local bugs and local diseases.

My one week treatment was ineffective; my VN doctor treatment of three times a day for 14 days was totally effective.

None of the above is intended as medical dosage advice. See an experienced doctor.

Around the same time, I was in Dong Nai and got a cold and horrible cough.

My friend went to China on business and had every sick Chinese person cough around him without covering their mouths. Eventually he got sick there and has since been back in HCMC.

I got some medicine and took "Tiffy" and some other stuff the local VN doctors prescribed and got better.

My friend however is still sick. He's a lot older than me being close to 70 years old. But he's still active, works out at the gym, and definitely does not act his age.

So I'm not sure what to do. Go to Thuoc Tay and ask for what cures a cold that you would get from Chinese people? :D

I just went to the International SOS Clinic this past Friday for a stomach bug. Service was excellent and it's very convenient since they have their own pharmacy and laboratory there as well.

There's also many doctors to choose from.

Found an American doctor here in HCMC. Well not really. He's indian but studied in the US. That's what I was looking for. Just booked an appointment to see him late today.

And what was the cost??

Bet you paid an arm and a leg for drugs - VN pharmacy drugs are subsidised by the government and they are sorcedby the government.

I took my friend to see Dr. Suresh. My friend was very happy with his visit and will go back next week to see him again when he comes back from his trip from Singapore.

Here's the link of where I found him.

My friend's visit was about $50. Will cost under $200 when he goes back to do lab work. Medicine cost about 200,000 VND.

It's more than what you would get at other hospitals. But considering that my friend's American, wanted to see an American doctor, it was all well worth the trip.

He went to the Vietnamese doctors 2 weeks prior. They completely miss diagnosed everything then.
