District 2

musica

Hi all, I live in district 7 but with so many towers sprouting around in this area I am really worried about the traffic going towards the centre. I'm looking for information regarding the traffic between district 2 towards the centre at pick times, and perhaps about district 2 itself, as I don't know this district at all and would like to know whether it might be a better alternative to living in district 7. Thanks.

Hi Musica, A lot of it depends where you live. For example in Thao Dien there arent many towers, but on the other side of the 1A main road by metro, there are a few with more being built as I type.

Are you traveling by car or motorbike?
The traffic into D1(downtown) during peak hours is heavily congested. There are only a few ways in, 1 via the Saigon bridge the other by another bridge which brings you out closer but on the same stretch of road. The alternative is too use the ferry but that's due to stop soon when the new tunnel opens. How much difference that will make remains to be seen.

Tbh if your concerns are traffic management welcome to the club the government is looking at ways to reduce the amount of traffic flowing into D1 but keep in mind these roads were not built for traffic and it shows. together with the lack of road rules and\or enforcement it makes commuting a challenge.

The roads in D7 and to some extend the new areas of D2 are being built with cars in mind, that's not to say the traffic will ease, but hopefully a bit more space will help.

Hello, I lived in D2 before and it took me forever to get to D1 during office hours and back. D7 to D1 i guess would be about the same during peak but off peak D2 will be quicker to D1. Empire is coming up next to Cantavil that should surely clog up the traffic if you're coming from around that area.

I see. What a dilemma. I just can't decide whether there's any point of my moving to district 2 or not. Do you guys live in q. 7, too? Can you see how many new blocks are about to be completed? I keep wondering what's going to happen when all these new flats are occupied, and try to make the right decision now that my lease is up. How are we going to fit in the road? (I drive a motorbike). Thanks for sharing, btw.

I hear you, i have a few friends in D7 so visit them all the time and i think a subway is long over due! I live closer in Ben Thanh district so not too bad to get to the city.

Btw are you a Redsox fan? been to Fenway Park a few times! Very different from a soccer stadium though, it almsot felt like i was going to a BBQ compared to the soccer. What a nice quaint little ball park.

A Redsox fan? Me? Funny though, I saw them play long time ago in Boston. (I'm assuming you refer to the baseball team...). Actually, I don't even know where the football stadium is in HCMC.

Was wondering since i noticed you were in Boston, yes Baseball. They tried to teach me the rules several times and i couldn't for the life of me understand and i was finally told - all i needed to know was to catch a foul ball if it ever came my way!

I have seen a stadium in the city somewhere but haven't seen a game here.

Yes, that sounds about right. I remember sitting for a long time eating hot dogs, and the smell of fried onions. No idea who won.
