ATMs accept Visa prepaid/Electron cards?

Are Visa prepaid Electron cards generally accepted for withdrawals at ATMs at VN's larger banks?
Looking to order a new card from my European bank. I can get its extra-Euro fees waived so only need to consider the VN banks' commissions. Am thinking of getting a prepaid Visa Electron card. My previous card was a regular Visa debit card, but this was used fraudulently, in Europe, and I had to cancel it from VN and couldn't get it replaced while out there. Previously I did my larger withdrawals from VP Bank since their commission was zero, but I think that changed later ...

I don't know about your Visa prepaid Electron cards, I'd have to Google to be educated.

I have USA address as the billing address on all my cards and bank accounts. When a card expires or gets used fraudulently and I cancel it, the new card is sent to my USA address (which happens to be where my brother lives) and then I find a friend or a friend of a friend who is coming to Vietnam and who will carry the card in their luggage for me. I've done this twice and "activated" the card after it gets here successfully. It can be tricky because there's a time deadline on activation, so the above process has to be done with that in mind. One time, I got my brother on video call on my computer, while I called in the activation on VOIP phone as my brother read the prompts to me, thus sidestepping the problem of the activation deadline.

Could you order both, and then see what happens?

I've been using my Canadian bank's debit card in Vietnam for the past 9 years. No issue. I've also used my visa credit card, issued by the same bank, again with no issues.

I'm unsure about whether VN businesses/banks/ATM machines will accept prepaid visa cards. Sorry.

Hello.  You might ask the issuer of the card and ensure that its activated for being used beyond the European Union. Also ask for any limits (cash advance, payment limits, etc).  Then any ATM, POS  or e-Wallet in the world with the logos of VISA,Mastercard, Amex will accept your cards as far as the issuer has confirmed.  Just I'm not sure regarding others such as Discovery, Diners, etc.

Please be warned about vietnamese e-wallets such as VNPAY,  MOMO or ZaloPay, widely recommended to avoid international fees on every pity payment, but due to local regulations:  all Foreigners are requested to spend some time at their physical offices to get the activation, and do not expect to be attended in English🙄

For me, cash is king.

I decided to order both, the same Debit card I had previously, and the Prepaid card. They're both free and recharging the latter has no fee from this bank, unlike another bank I use.

My principal motivation for feedback on this is to withdraw cash for monthly rental accommodation payments.

My banking apps have the option to (de)activate certain functions of the cards such as online payments if I want to, and also to enable worldwide use, not only European.

The reason I asked about the prepaid (Electron) card is that should it be used fraudulently online, it cannot be overdrawn, unlike my regular debit card, which was previously used by criminals (though it wasn't overdrawn, fortunately).

@Aidan, Cash is king for me, too. At large corporations,  non-mom-n-pop establishments, or places that are expensive for what they're giving me,  I'm happy to pay with a Visa card that gives me airline miles as a kick-back. I flew HCMC - Melbourne, Australia - HCMC on just those miles, so it ain't nothing. But the credit card fees are high for businesses, pushing 3% of the transaction, so that's why I do what I do. And it's mostly cash.

While the Visa network operates globally, some individual local ATMs or smaller regional banks may occasionally decline prepaid cards due to specific anti-fraud configurations or offline authorisation rules.

Larger and main banks accept them.
