Taking a dog to Vietnam

Hi Everyone. New here. I am planning to move to Vietnam permanently to teach English. I want to take my dog (small chihuahua) with me. I know this is do-able, but I am concerned that I won't find anywhere to live. I am planning on Hanoi - which i have heard is dog-friendly. I would be looking to rent a room/condo in Hanoi. What are my options? Are there many landlords open to this? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Best chance to find a landlord who agrees to a dog will be to rent a small, unfurnished house

There will be landlords that are dog friendly. Just be very clear and upfront with them. Know the rules of the apartment. Keep in mind that if you are renting a room in a much larger apartment development the landlord may  say one thing and building management may say something totally different. For example here in Saigon it was quite common in my local dog owners group for people to sign a lease at Masteri or other apartments with the landlord saying it was totally ok to have dogs and you go there and there are dogs everywhere only to find out that the management refuses to allow you to have a dog right after moving in. Basically just don't take the landlords word for it only and do more research if its a larger apartment complex.

They eat 6 million dogs a year in Vietnam - not too dog friendly to me, despite the posts you’ll see.

@Nick Dunning

are you aware that they eat 6million dogs a year in Vietnam?

it’s not a pet friendly country in general.

Less dog consumption in the south, but still have dog markets. As well as cats and rats.

All animals and birds are eaten in Vietnam.

Dog theft is common. Many dogs are not vaccinated. If your dog is bitten, a high chance of rabies.

Many apartments don’t take dogs.

if they do, and your dog barks, neighbours will complain and bye bye dog.

is it really worth it?
