No problem for me.

It is a simple thing to do.
One can send it by post.
House owner or you  can do it in person.
And now Thai Immigration is working on a apps to use all so.

Here where i live, I have to do in when i return from outside Thailand, And IF someone else report me staying there, But for many many years now when we stay somewhere, We book it in wife name and i am not ask to show passport for hotel & guesthouse to report me.

TM.30 at my Immigration office (Si Racha Immigration) take like 1-3 minute.
So no problem for me.

When my partner and I went to immigration a few years ago to report on the TM30
The guy asked us if we had moved house and we said no. He then informed us that we need never report again unless we move house.
When i do my 90 day they are always just friendly and on occasion I get a re entry permit nothing is said re TM 30 even though the guy know I go to SA .

The law is locally enforced and at any time can be brought forward and enforced, just be prepared, it is a lot of administrative paper work for the Thai government, with a new head of the Department of Immigration you might have to deal with it , again their rules , their country.  A little bit of advice a petition will not go for as it is seen too much as a foreign influence, which is usually not well received by most agencies. Better to look for a sponsor a Thai interested in helping with the issue and working through the Thai way. Good luck don't hold your breath, the next big issue will be mandatory in effect Thai health insurance for foreigners provable at the airport and boarder crossings.

Hi guys, did you forget that Thailand is a military dictatorship ?

A military dictatorship (still more than democracies !) hates foreigners, and accept them in the country only for the money they expend.
Tourists are welcome, less or more, because they don't stay long and expend a lot. But expats are a pain in the neck !

TM30 is surely totally useless. But it is an act of submission from foreigners that the army will never agree to give up !

The TM 30 is part of the immigration laws of Thailand so just go with the flow in a few months it will possible be forgotten again. If you had 10,000 signatures on a petition by Visa holders
in your home country what would your Government do other than if being polite would say we will look into it otherwise roll it up in a ball and throw it in the waste bin.

The issue whether we like it or not is more about consistency across all contact points, as opposed to catching different moods and individual interpretations within immigration and / or the local police.
The main issue though is that they have clearly not spent enough money or time developing good enough systems online or via their app (which is completely useless) to cope with what they are now requesting we do.
A friend who is married to a government official says that ‘they’ don’t really want these digital assets to work properly anyhow because if they do they won’t be able to collect as many fines as many are keen to do.

My understanding, from my late wife, a Thai national, is that all Thai people need to be listed in a 'house registration' book (or at least every house owner needs to register everyone, even Thai nationals who are living in that residence.) That seems to me to be very similar to the TM 30 is it not?

I thought it was a little bit 'authoritarian', but it's their country; their rules.

I would think if anything it would be the 'house registration' requirements that would be dropped before the TM 30?


Also, don't the Japanese have something similar for tourists? I'm not sure if it's a government requirement or just standard Japanese business practices for renting to foreigners, but they require your passport info there as well.

It is Thailand their rules their way of doing things, is it tedious ... maybe to a certain extent, but it is the law, unfortunately the actual law is interpreted at the local level and enforcement is spotty at the best of times and miss understood regularly as actually lots of places have no tourists so never really see the need or the actually use of the TM 30 ... and those hidden unregistered motels don't want paper work proving they have an unregistered income they have not reported to the government for taxing purposes, so lots of little disincentives throughout the system, unfortunately and a diffusely written rule to administer versus the foreigner versus the owner of the property, trying to be a fully inclusive rule where some one needs to report, the 2 involved parties usually end up pointing at each other for the fine and responsibility. Meaning it is your problem in the end.

Fyi ~ The TM30 rule has been in effect since 1979,...originally in conjunction with the A.S.E.A.N. treaty agreement.

However,...it is primarily due to the recent pressure placed upon the TIB,...(from both the UK and US governments,...as a means of keeping closer tabs upon their own expat citizens,...(combined with their ^ never-ending "Russian Mafia" phobia) that the TM30 rule is now being more stringently enforced.
