Importing a car into Thailand

wozzlegummich

Does anyone know where I can get an import duty/tax estimation before importing a car into Thailand?

A Google search found costs of between 150% and 300% of the cars value depending on age a vehicle type.

If you have a non immigrant visa and a work permit valid to work in Thailand for 12 months or more you may import one new or used vehicle.

Do a Google search as I did. There are companies there who will have such information.

I came here from Oz in the 90's with Rover Land Rover Group and also worked with GM in Rayong. I'd HIGHLY recommend you shouldn't import a used car into Thailand, it's a nightmare at best and a pit-full of snakes and vipers waiting to alleviate you from as much of your money as possible if you do try.

Of course it can be done but there's no good reason to do so either financially nor mental health-wise...

Just my 30 years local experience :-S

😅 yes, it's a quandary ... I have a 97 BMW 540i which owes me about $5,000 so paying 80% to import it takes it to $9,000 plus transport circa 200,000 baht ... one there for sale 368,000 Baht ... but who knows, I may have to scale back
