Medication in Sri Lanka

Good morning everyone,

Whether it's a simple cold or a chronic illness, medication and medicine use vary from country to country and culture to culture.

When you are used to certain brands or types of drugs, being in a country like Sri Lanka with different rules can affect your daily well-being.

Some drugs also differ in name, price, dosage, active molecule, so we would like to hear your opinion on these issues:

Have you ever had difficulties finding familiar or useful medicines for your health in your host country?

Have you ever been faced with a shortage of medicines in Sri Lanka?

Would you have said that in Sri Lanka drugs are more or less expensive than in your home country? Do you find them more or less effective or of similar quality?

What is the place of alternative medicines in your host country? Have you ever used them?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Loïc

Hi, yes I have found that medicines are at a lower cost and healthcare (private) a significant difference and of equal quality.
Women’s medicines are given lower priority I fear. Since moving here I have needed a super high strength cranberry supplement as so many woman do in their 40s onwards and this is non existent and you have order from Australia or UK. A very low grade version was found in Colombo but not really effective. Quality Vitamins and alternative health options are not easy to find either. Daraz is a good source when looking for things I find but has it’s limits.

Hello, Try Osusala pharmacies or union Chemists!
For alternative health options try Ayurveda medicine for instance Siddhalepa, Nawinna ayurveda or an old ayurveda family with a history, they have the ability to make personalized ayurveda medicine which are effective for your own body and health,  Mathara district where you are located is a good area to find those kind of ayurveda families but at the same time beware of scammers who have slipped into ayurveda from nowhere. Cheers!
