Chances of EP getting approval

umeboshi

Hello, previously I posted back in 2022, Dec., regarding my S pass, which got approved without a problem, and moved to Singapore this year Jan.

Now, I got a change in my working environment and got an offer from a small company, and they are willing to sponsor EP.

However, I have concerns that they are offering me with S$4,600 and my SAT min. salary that shows for EP is S$7,100. Does this mean my EP has higher chance that will be rejected?

I am on my late 20s and the position offered is Management Associate (Japanese speaker), it has to be Native Japanese because it needs to liaise with clients from Japan.

Regarding my new company, it is a very small company with 3 full-time employees including the CEO. They have been operating for 14 years.

Although I told my employee that there might be chances that will be rejected due to salary not meeting the SAT min., but they insisted on submitting with the offered salary above and they said if rejected they will submit it with the min., salary stated in the SAT.

Also, if it is S pass updated to EP, will this be considered new pass application? (Has more than 6 months left to expire as my current S pass is until 2025, Feb.) Or it is considered renewal of pass?

because if it is new pass then min., is S$7,100 but if it is renewal then min., is S$6k.

Very likely it will be rejected as you said correctly if SAT shows based on your experience, education and age is $7,100 then near to that salary amount should be ideally to consider.

But if rejected then company can appeal with their rationale why they want to hire you.

You didn’t mention what’s your current salary because unreasonable amount of salary increase is also lead to rejection (e.g. Salary hike from $4600 to $7100 will be rejected).

If you are lucky enough then with your $4600 salary you get EP approval., Good luck

I disagree with Surya above: An EP application with salary below the minimum (as shown in the SAT) is 100% certain to be rejected. The minimum salaries are aligned with market standards, so foreigners cannot undercut the local pay structure and "steal" jobs from Singaporeans.

If your employer has already indicated they are willing to pay you the required salary, then you should insist they do that (instead of agreeing on a futile application and working below your market value).

@surya2k

Thank you so much!

very much appreciate your opinion.

@beppi

Thank you Beppi!

I also doubt that it will get approval for my case..

as for my 2nd question, will I be considered new pass application or renewal..?

If you read my message, I clearly stated that if SAT shows your min salary should be $7100 then chances are likely it will be rejected.

The only scenario I can see is the requirement of native Japanese speaker which is rare in Singapore.

But then your company would have applied with minimum salary of $7100.

One thing I was highlighted which is missing in your info, what’s is your current salary? If it’s somewhere around $4000 then if your company applying with salary of $7100 then it’s very likely going to reject because of uneven salary rise (almost 71%).

In both scenarios your company has to justify and provide valid rationale.

Im bit sceptical on this statement “if rejected they will submit it with the min., salary stated in the SAT”. If that’s the case then what was preventing them to apply with this salary at the beginning?

Anyway, good luck. Please update us the outcome of your EP which will benefit other expats.

@surya2k

thank you again for your reply.

my reply regarding my question for renewal/new pass app., was rely for Beppi.

but again, thanks and will let you know the outcome, although I know it will be highly rejected.

As for the reason why company is trying to submit the salary below the min., salary stated in SAT, tbh I have no idea. I guess they don’t know that salary below min., salary stated in SAT will highly get rejected.

as for my 2nd question, will I be considered new pass application or renewal..?
-@umeboshi

Is your current employer applying for a renewal, or the new employer for a new pass?

umeboshi

@beppi

my new employer is applying for new pass for ep.

my current s pass is valid until 2025, so for this case i am considered new pass application instead of renewal, i guess..?

beppi

@umeboshi Of course - you are not renewing the existing pass!
