What do you like the most in the Philippines?

maddletalk

If you are not jealous, why must you try to link an entire nation to a few?

MikeandCo

Norm..

You guys ?  We think we own it ? Nice job generalizing there. You didn't go for the "I've met too many American who..().." You go right to the "You Guys..", which essentially means ALL Americans. Well done, sir. NOT !

If only all of us Americans were more like you ! A bit too prejudiced, perhaps, but otherwise, you're a terrific guy, I'm sure !

Jealous? You must be kidding, the only people on earth that envy the American lifestyle are the poor and desperate.
You guys make up 3% of the world's population, yet you think you own it, how delusional can one be.

Norm, You are Australian, I am Australian.  I just want to make it clear that not all Australians think the same.

I would hate for another nationality to generalise like that to us.

Sure, there are some obnoxious Americans, and Australians and British, etc etc.  But we can't blame an entire race for a smaller numbers stupidity.

Thanks ABCDiamond. A new voice of reason.

Actually you can blame one guy - an American called Horace Mann, the founder of the Modern Education system. He found that system in Prussia; the nascent Nazi state. Look for his name on YouTube, or the Prussian Education System.

MikeandCo

Shouganai..

1) No thank you, I won't be googling Horace Mann.
2) You lost me at the Prussia border.

maddletalk

Well said!!

Going back a bit further we see is was actually down to Napoleon.

The actual Prussian education system was introduced as a basic concept in the late 18th century and was significantly enhanced after Prussia's defeat in the early stages of the Napoleonic Wars.

Prussian compulsory education
compulsory education on the Prussian example was soon mirrored in Scandinavia, and US states as Michigan and Massachusetts started in 1835 and 1852 to adopt the Prussian example, France and the UK failed to introduce similar systems till the 1880s

Where did your Nazi reference come from ?
It was 1933, 100 years later, when the Nazi party was started.

But, thank you to Horace Mann, for pushing for compulsory education.

But we went off topic with that... ;)

I'm glad you said that. Thanks !  I was concerned that it was me that couldn't understand that post.  And should you believe that, then I may have a bridge here in New York City which I'd like to offer to you !

maddletalk

Why would you have so much anger and hate for us Americans? Have you ever taken the time to get to know any of us. I for one have been told by lots of people here that I am a hell of a man and I agree. And that includes Canadians, Brits,Italians, Australians, and a few others. Yes its true we do have a very corrupt Government and for the most part doesn't  represent the people and what they want anymore. But I think if you start looking around at your own Government with honesty you will find they are the same. Most governments are corrupt.

MikeandCo

The problem is in PH that there's so much poverty, the politicians arguably possess an even higher degree of selfishness and complete lack of empathy for their fellow man. They drive past a country of poor, not a large minority as in the U.S...they drive past a whole COUNTRY of poor people, into their gated community which they paid for with the lower or lower middle class's money. Two faced dillweeds. I'd like to punch them in their faceS!

After many years of winter weather, my wife and I enjoy the warm weather and being able to enjoy the outdoors year round.
For us, our retirement funds go further in the Phil and that allows us to do some traveling and live simply but comfortably.
My wife's very large family are good people and ask for nothing while being helpful and friendly and we have enjoyed the occasional family reunions where 3 or 4 generations get together and simply enjoy catching up and spending time together.
Our home is in a quiet country setting and just sitting on the veranda and enjoying the breeze, the birds and the view is relaxing.
We love it.
