Fraud-like actions at SnR Part 2

SnR… With past issues of false CC charges on new US bank-issued CC…..more issues with processing charges (even using local cards)

I recently returned from California and made the mistake of shopping at SnR Nuvali on May 5, paying for my items with my Maya account (via QR code).  The QR code shows GCash and PayMaya as options. Once scanned, the money was debited from my account within 10 seconds at 15:54. However, the supervisor claimed they did not have proof and that they only accept GCash.

After over 45 minutes of word games and denial of payment confirmation, I returned home to Tagaytay without the items and minus my funds.  Within 30 minutes of being back in Tagaytay, my Maya updated to show it had been processed in SnR’s system under Maya G-Xchange Inc./GCash, Merchant ID: 21702000019062928134 (SnR’s verified GCash merchant ID).

Of course, the process was made more exciting by the fact that SnR refuses to provide WIFI at any registers even though cell service is blocked once inside the store and away from the front entry/exit.  The lies I was told in an effort to explain why it would take 7-15 days to refund my money, and the SnR system's use of customers’ money as a “bank float,” took the deceit to a new level.

Here we are on May 19, 2026, and zero refund has posted… ZERO.

Lander’s is my next stop!  Be warned!!!!!

Why I pay cash

I've had my problems with S&R also. I'm now doing my purchases online. Online S&R does not allow c.o.d. purchases. On my last direct online purchase they put a hold on my BDO debit card for P1500 more than the actual purchase.

About a month later they reconciled the actual amount on my BDO debit card.

So my lastest S&R  purchase was done through MetroMart which allows c.o.d. for purchases below P25,000, I had to cut back to get below the P25,000.

If using a debit card on checkout they will add suggest tips which was not to my liking. That is why I use c.o.d. because I prefer to make my own decision on the tip.

For online purchases there is a shopping fee + delivery fee, I don't mind because it saves me a trip (Grab) and gives me same day delivery in the time slot I pick.

I prefer to look at certain items in person prior to purchase...  SnR CS continues to slip downward, and so is my spending with this company.  Management appears to have handed control over to the merchandisers (i.e, aka "dizzers") and seems unavailable/incapabble to address out-of-stock conditions other than "shipment has not arrived."  The business concept of increasing inventory turns seems foreign to management.  I think reducing my monthly spending from over P25K/month to less than 7K as a monthly average (over the last 18 months) is my way to let my reduced spending speak.

I'll have to pay closer attention when shopping at S&R Cebu. I've paid with my US Wise card. And did not notice any issues.

I have noticed all of there prepared fresh foods, like salads, ground beef etc. have expiration dates of the same day or the next day. I did buy some ground beef for a barbecue we had that day. But all of it was grey. Not red colored and fresh looking. The expire date was the next day.

It's such an obvious crappier clone of Costco. But one reason I shopped at Costco was the turn over. Most items sold so quickly items were almost always very fresh with long expire dates. Not so at this local S&R.

Produce prices were high. And everything was sealed in plastic. So it's hard to judge freshness. We don't buy produce or meat there. Preferring the local supermarket.

They had a great deal on a recliner. But other than that the only items I see that are relevant to me are the vitamins and supplements. Even then some are over priced.

Still debating whether to keep my membership next year. If they kept metamucil in stock it might be a valuable place to keep my membership. But that rarely happens.

One card snafu I've gotten bit by and learned to avoid. Was using my US bank debit at the supermarkets. Like SM or Robinsons. If you choose options presented by the checker incorrectly or it just goes thru. The store uses their exchange rate. Which is a terrible rate. But if I stick to my Wise card it always gives me Wise's current real rate. I tend to use my Wise card everywhere. I can also convert my US dollars in my account to peso. And they always have the best rate.

I calculated the difference between using my Wise card and a local bank. And it wasn't enough savings to go thru the hassle of getting a local account. I have an ACR card. But on a typical 2 month visa. I think it's doable with a real long term visa. But I have heard you have to pick the exact branch to go to. And banking here is a very different experience than in the US. A friend who's building a house has had major problems with several banks. Just trying to deposit money.

Calif-Native said . . . . Being a SnR customer (eight years) I notice some of their imported items they stocked are hit and miss. So those certain things that I like, I load up on them knowing they may not reappear for months.

I believe Landers has better meats.
