Job trial in Kuala Lumpur

barclay116

Hi, I have a job offer as a teacher in Kuala Lumpur which has a 3 month probation period attached. The school will arrange my visa once the 3 months has passed, has anyone been in this position before and knows if I need a visa for the initial 3 months? Thanks,

Which nationality are you? I have a feeling that they may be attempting to put you on the tourist visa for the three months which I am pretty sure is the best way to do things - the school may be attempting to do this at no visa cost to themselves, as the employment pass is a bit more costly. If this is the case, I would be worried about other cost and corner cutting measures the school may be making and not sure if it's the sort of place you'd want to commit to long term - I guess the three months is a way for you to get a feel of the place as well. It might be worth checking them out on the ISR website / reddit / reaching out to current/ex staff.

Happy to chat in DM if needed.

Hi, I am British and would be coming with my husband- also British. It is a well known school and I have spoken to someone who works with them and all seems very legit, my concern is what happens at passport control/immigration when we arrive with no return flights but some accommodation info...

That is a question to ask the HR of the school who have made that arrangement. I am assuming they will ask you to complete the landing form as a tourist, and enter through the e-gates. Realistically, you do not need a flight to exit the country as you can exit through land via road or train.

It may also be worth checking with HR if your tax status will be impacted and how they will pay you during the three month probation.

My school employed me as normal, arranged emplyment visas for when I landed and I had a one term probation as per my contract.
