Driving in Malaysia with a Foreign Licence and IDP

I will be travelling to Malaysia soon and I'm trying to understand the rules for driving with a foreign driving licence.

Can visitors drive using their home country's licence, or is an International Driving Permit (IDP) also required? I would also like to know:

- Which countries' licences are accepted?

- Is an IDP mandatory for car rentals?

- How long can foreigners legally drive in Malaysia?

- Has anyone recently gone through this process?

I have been reading different sources and found that the requirements can vary depending on nationality and the rental company. I would appreciate hearing from people with recent experience.
