lining in Bali
I'm considering long term residency in Bail. Mainly to get inspiration from the local culture, nature & to enjoy a peaceful life. My hobby is painting. I'm specially fascinated by ink (sepia) brush painting, inspired by Chinese style traditional paintings.
Anybody could guide me to the best area in Bali for long term living. Far from crowded tourists area or packed housing areas. Ideally in a clean area with less narrow streets, not far from daily shopping but rich in nature.
Asking too much? Well, there are always compromises in life!!!

However, Lombok is better, with few tourists and far less of everything they're associated with.
You still get the amazing beaches.
If your interest is Chinese culture, Taiping or Malacca (Malaysia) could be the place for you.
Both are wonderful places.
Has LOMBOK easy access to an international airport? Or to Bali?
I have to live near by or having rapid access to an intl airport, convenient for a frequent flyers.
Also I don't want be isolated in future.....
Shopping is far more limited on Lombok than Bali, but all the basics are easily available.
Other options could be Anyer area, two hours drive from Jakarta, but very quiet and still has nice beaches.
Is there a balance between nature & access to daily needs including café or bars to socialise?
Would you please help me to find website or reports on Ubud and it's lifestyle?
Appreciate.
My initial plan for the first year to use tourist visa & stay 2 months / each quarter in order to establish myself for permanent stay. What is the best way?

Actually, you can easily research Ubud on the internet yourself. There is so much information available about it and the surrounding villages.

Sadly, there isn't one.
The tourist visa is 30 days, and can be extended for a further 30, but I understand it takes a couple of days to get it done.
If you do that too many times on the trot, immigration might well assume you're working and refuse you a VOA or question you a lot before they extend the visa.
If your art is to be sold locally, that would probably be considered work, and that'll complicate matters, as well as increase costs.

Not at all I shall not looking for income. Painting is just my hobby. Bali is just an inspiration which I lost in Europe.
I'm looking for a simple practical & easy way...
As a result of this recent change, if you are planning to enter Indonesia on an Iranian passport you will have to apply for a visit visa from an Indonesian embassy closest to where you are currently living (there is no Indonesian embassy or consulate in Monaco).
As for what you are looking for…Ubud Bali is the obvious choice. Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali and it has been home to foreign expatriate artists for over a hundred years.
Iranian citizens
Pot, I forgot to look at his profile, just seeing the location under the avatar.
Roy is absolutely correct, there is no possibility of a VOA, so paperwork is going to be a killer for you.
They'll ask for proof of income and/or a good bank account before you get a visa.
Ubudian wrote:Two points…one, as of 2013 Iranian citizens are no longer eligible for visas on arrival. If you have other than an Iranian passport, check the VOA eligibility list to see if that country is on the list.

List of eligible countries for Bali 2015, Iran is in the list!!! Would you please verify this?
Sorry, but It's very disappointing....
It's correct, Iranian citizens need to apply for a visa which needs to be approved.
As Roy (Ubudian) correctly informed, the visa on arrival status was revoked again

Thanks, but I'm not in painting business. I'm architect who is tired of business. So painting is just a great pleasure for me. In fact I don't need to work to earn money. However thanks for your recommendation. Right, UBUD has an artistic community.

Have it from the immigration sign in Jakarta's main airport.
I took the photograph myself, so I know it's correct.
Sorry to confirm your fears.

Do you know the cost of a nice sign like that?

How nice of you to clear the confusion. My wife says it doesn't worth it. Nearest Indonesian embassy to Monaco is in Paris. May be we have been too spoiled in the past 15 years in Monaco!
So, we leave it for the time that VOA becomes applicable again.
Anyway it isn't vital & urgent. We think of other alternatives for coming holidays. ...
Have a nice day

The cost of the sign is moderate I think......but the price of the image must be damn high
