Mass expat departures from Hong Kong

Veedushi

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well.

According to many reports and international media, the past months have been marked by a massive expat exodus in Hong Kong.

In your opinion, what is making them leave Hong Kong?

What is the current situation in Kong Kong?

What are your reasons for staying or leaving Hong Kong?

We'd love to hear from you.

Warm regards,
Veedushi

Having lived in Hong Kong since 1988 and gone through the 1989, 2003 SARS, and now COVID 19, I have to say when you look over seas i.e. the UK, with the clown that has now been kicked out of #10, the strikes, NHS issues, Brexit problems, Hong Kong in my opinion is by far the greatest place to live!

The expats that you seem to have a crush on, are leaving perhaps because they are NO longer required, the PRC and the SAR have got great talent, if you dont speak Cantonese or Mandarin, and your a banker/lawyer type you have no chance, the Chinese are well educated, have solid connections, they are on the rise and again in my view they deserve to have these roles.

Hong Kong was always Chinese with a British flavor, but this was on a leasehold, why people complain about the British when they and the expats knew it was only a matter of time before Hong Kong was returned, we had a great time and still have a great time, Hong Kong is slowly getting back to work, and the people are still engaging in all respects.
