Lynette,  My husband and I are moving to Shenzhen in early June and were looking for apartments in the Futian/Luohu area.  Our relocation helpers are steering us towards Shekou but we are not interested in the long commute to work.  How are you liking this area?   Are you finding friends easily?

You may consider other relocation helpers that work on other areas as well. IMO, it is not advisable to live too far from your work.
Shenzhen's traffic is not always that good, traffic jam happens.
