tashwilmot

Hi, Our daughter is booked in to start at this school in January.  I would like to hear general opinions about the school, if that is allowed on the page?  Good areas to then live with this school in mind?  Thank you Natasha

Hi Tash,
You don’t mention which Grade, but if a Teenager, Tamarin is full of them. My daughter (15) is in Westcoast for the last 3 years and we like the school so far. The ICGSE is followed and we had good support from the school when needed.

Let me know if you have any specific question.

Best Regards
Fabyan

Hi Fabyan,  Thank you, she will be going into Year one at the age of 12 / 13 next year.  Are there a mix of english speaking / others in the school?  We do not speak French.  So Tamarin would be a good area?  Or is all quite close?  Other areas that are good to look at house wise with the school in mind? Do you use the busses to school?  I gather there a private ones that take the kids to school?  Thank you Natasha

HI Natasha,
The School is a mix of Foreigners and Mauritians and they speak English, French or Creole (or all together). My daughter also do not speak French when we arrived, but they catch up,  and you will identify group of friends speaking the language they feel more comfortable with, majority English, so not only looking for the school itself, but for the friends she will do, Tamarin is a good area as allow them to catch up after school.

not the only one, Flic en Flac (where the school is) can be one option, but we found too old options to live here when compared to Black River & Tamarin, which I recommend you to look. Tamarina is in the middle, but little isolated, and Cap Tamarin is a new residential project that will create a lot of houses at the when Tamarin begin. I initially live in Black River and than move to Tamarin and we happy here.

forgot to mention about school bus, that my daughter use and I recommend as will save you to go back & forwards to school at the same time give our child a little more independence, to do not mention responsibility (and it's safe). I suggest you wait a little as your daughter will meet other students that also use it and than they can share who is the driver/contact for you to add your daughter in the same one.
