Pointe aux piments to University of Mauritius(Moka) during rush hour.

Hey all,

Im going to be in Mauritius for a week on business. I will mostly be based at the University of Mauritius in Moka, and the hotel I I have been given is in Pointe aux Piments. I was planning on taking a taxi to work each day and back. According to google maps this journey should take 30 minutes but I have been reading some pretty damming stuff about the traffic during rush hour, particularly given the most direct route for me seems to go through Port Louis. What kind of travel time would I be expecting given traffic if I want to arrive at work at 9 and leave at 4ish? What kind of cost would I be expecting for taxi's?

Hi tib1234,

to be frank with you, Moka is pretty far from Pointe aux Piments, and Port Louis is completely blocked during peak hours. You may need more than 1h30 every morning (maybe even more)

Hi,

I think it will be better for you to move to Port Louis or nearest place to Moka.

You may also move to Beau Bassin/Rose Hill, as they are pretty close to Moka.

If you have the option, I'd check out the Four Points Sheraton in Cyber City. New and modern, it's within walking distance of the University and has convenient shopping/restaurants nearby.

Commuting from Pointe aux Piments to Moka is a nightmare, especially in the back of a Mauritian taxi. If you're not attached to the "beach front" atmosphere angle then you'd do better to stay in-town and adjacent to the campus.

BTW, the beach in Pointe aux Piments sucks anyway, so you won't be missing much...just my $0.02.
