... re cost of living. We are looking for a job in Libya - my husband is a Cost Consultant/Commercial Manager in Project Management and the first company who interviewed him asked him what he wants as a salary.

How can he quote a sum when we've never been to Libya and don't know what anything costs? I have looked at a variety of sites mentioned in this forum but everything seems to be out of date by a couple of years !!

For example, we would be looking for a 4-bedroom villa with pool outside a compound but do not know the prices for such a thing.

Where can I find the day to day costs or can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what it costs a family of 3 to live monthly?

I appreciate any help that you can give me.

I agree with all this. accurate data. But regarding bread lol you know everyone loves his country's food. now I'm in the UK is dreaming of a piece of bread from Libya because I didn't like UK bread. Libyan bread is youuuuumy

so, you are three.

if you wanna live normal life and save money, then you need to spend around 1000LYD for living expenses and 1500LYD for Accommodation. that is 2500LYD maximum and you will live a very comfortable life. any money you gain more than 2500, you will be able to save it for your future.

Sleepy Hollow - Again thanks for responding. I make my own bread anyway so that's one thing I am definitely safe about; though I do like Arab flat bread too.

Libya sounds a lot cheaper than Dubai - we pay 3 times the rent you pay there and we have to pay a year in advance which immediately puts you in the red with the bank !! I like the idea that the company pays for the house and electricity and water - over here all those are included in the salary so its up to you to pay for everything. And prices are phenomenally expensive which is one of the reasons we want to move.

Keep them coming - any little bit of information helps us put a package together.

Office boy, it sounds as if you got a good deal because the places I have seen advertised are around 3000 dinar and up for a villa with pool. If you don't mind, in what area are you renting? Thanks

But bear in mind that at least DEWA gives you consistent power and water. Don't expect anywhere close to the same in Libya and make sure you protect your expensive electronics with surge protectors, voltage stabilizers and UPS for your computers.

Property to rent in Tripoli is cheaper than the UAE, but not a whole lot cheaper when you compare like for like and the quality of construction is nowhere near as good in Libya, even for newbuilds. Rents in Libya are also payable 12 months in advance, non-negotiable.

I agree, the ones I've seen advertised in Jansour and Suraj (sp) are over 4k !!
