Now now MO my friend, that is my homeland you are slagging off, you know how proud us Scots are don't you ?. Anyway the island malts are rank as far as I am concerned, too much peat used in the process, leading to a smokey earthlike taste.

Lovely, lovely, lovely!  We are looking forward to heading back to the good old north east for our hols, where they are apparently basking in 23 degrees, with only light showers.  Suspect I won't be needing these >

pronunciation of Gaelic names can be very difficult even for a Scotsman. It is a beautiful part of the world though. I spent 5 years living in Dervaig on the Island of Mull, sod all to do but gorgeous none the less.

We lived there for 4 years, remember wearing winter coats in June, walking up and down Union Street.

The glorious north east of England, I meant, obviously - centre of the known universe, and home to various fabulous football teams...  It's also mostly cold and wet, but not as cold and wet as north east Scotland.  We spent five weeks in the Highlands in summer 2007 and it rained EVERY DAY.  I learnt a good lesson.   Very beautiful, though, it's true

Yeah mate, bloody freezing most of the time. I am from Edinburgh and thought I knew what cold was, that is until I moved to Aberdeen, the wind comes right off the North sea and cuts right through you. Ah well it will be a nice change from the heat here.

Ex girlfriend and I had a holiday in NE Scotland staying with her  auntie and uncle. We stayed for a month and it only rained twice. Once for three weeks and the second time for one week.

Awful place. Crap beer and incomprehensible locals.

In the bar at the Sligachan hotel, Mrs Sand was engaged in conversation with this fella and was having great difficulty in understand a single word. She asked me to come over to translate...turned out he was a Scouser!

They probably enjoyed you being there as much as you did , what nationality are you as a matter of interest, Just checked you say you are 'British' which I presume means English, and I am guessing from south of the Watford gap per chance ?

All this talk about Skye and Scots is bringing back memories of my granny singing the Skye Boat song....Speed bonnie boat...while grandpa in his kilt tossed the caber and hammer around out in the back field.  That was many moons ago, but this past weekend in a small town in Canada they held their famous Highland Games. Gathering of the Clans, caber toss, parades etc...now I am homesick!
