I haven't used it in a few weeks, so I don't know if it's working today.

Cost is 10 dinars for 45 hours of use (the hours expire within a month).  Remember to turn the data of on your phone when you're not using it.  Some smartphones send data in the background even if you aren't doing anything on the net so it will burn through your hours while you aren't doing anything.

To enable service send a text message to 8990 with either GPRS or 1 and you should be good to go.

It has been working great for me, slow mind you, but I have not had any other problems with it.  You can call them at 1213 and speak to a customer service agent in english and they will help you with the set up. You may be a hold for a bit but once you get through they are very helpful. We needed to download a program for Nokia to get the modem to work.  Good luck!

It looks like we will be in Libya for a yr starting this summer. I am wondering what the cost of a cell phone is? I am not bringing the iPhones as they are a data hogging money sucking beasts! Just an average cost if anyone knows. I have been reading all the topics and there is some great info here-thanks to all for posting!

Nokia 6700 Classic about 350LD (About $300). There is a wide range of makes and models available in the local market. If you are coming via Dubai by any chance, I would say better to buy in Dubai.

You can also bring your current phone you are using in US and have someone unlock it here in Tripoli for a small charge so you will be able to use it with a local SIM. I am not sure if all makes and models are un-lockable though.

Anyway, I would say better to buy it here locally (or in Middle east) rather then buy an unlocked version from US/Europe.

If you're still unable to resolve the config. issues on the phone, may I suggest you visit Almadar's customer service centre in Fashloum Road. In my experience they are very helpful..

This information is very accurate and you will get it working ,, Once you send to the said number a text message containing GPRS.

what will happen next,

1-You will receive the configuration for your mobile phone,, do not interfer ,, it will be automatically installed.. it just asks you to save it..

2- afetr the configuaration completes ,, a massage to cnfirm completion will pop up and say ( you can use the internet now) or something like that.

3- You will not be able to use internet unless you restart your phone,, so switch of and back ON ,, and here you got ,, surf the net.
