End of Eid?

Has anyone else noticed that the volume of sheep and goats being shipped around in the back of pick-ups has increased 10 fold in the past week?

Just some of it is my understanding.  A third is kept, a third is for neighbours and friends and a third is for the poor.

Today they will do the actual sacrifice.  If you head out in the evening tonight and tomorrow you will find roadside stalls where flaming bathtubs are used as giant roasting pits.  People bring the sheep heads here for roasting as these roadside bathtub vendors do it best apparently.  They say the eyeballs are the best part though brain comes in a close second.  You may see some really bloody butcher shops as well.  The weak stomached are best to stay in and just pretend it all isn't happening or you may end up a vegetarian for the duration of your stay here.   Tomorrow they will eat a rice dish that is cooked "haggis style" inside the stomach of the animal killed today.  Then one more day of rest and festivities are over, (minus the half-coma induced by massive meat consumption that will last a few days).

I wish I could be there to celebrate. It is a wonderful time and everyone is happy.

Well color me embarrased - the slaughter is today.  Went out for a drive and was disappointed to see no flaming bathtubs, just goat heads being blow torched.
