Best pack a few good voltage regulators in there too for the expensive equipment.
Voltage can vary between 150v and 350v at times although this is improving. Many folk have blown all their equipment when the voltage peaks.

I theory you can run some 240 V 60 Hz North American appliances on 230V 50 Hz.

Keep in mind that the wiring is completely different for these two systems.  You'd have to modify your appliances - which might take an electrician a few hours (it's not just changing the plug type...).

Your best bet is to leave your North American 240 V appliances behind.  For all your 120 V stuff, use a voltage transformers.  I'd recommend picking up some of these in the US.

If you use adaptors for your 240/110V stuff to go from an American male plug to a two-prong round Libyan female socket, be aware that the 240 female sockets in Libya are typically round and recessed, so the flat 110V adaptors from abroad do not fit in the plug-in socket.  The good news is that adaptors for american-style plugs seem to be readily available in Tripoli.

I am a bit confused about electrical appliances too. I have searched the web and seem to get conflicting information. Would someone be able to tell what type of adapters I require to plug in my UK appliances. And do I also require to have voltage converters or anything else.

These are what you need. Get a dozen or so plugs from your Maplins electronics store. They sell them in Libya but the quality is crap and they don't usually have an earth connection.

The power supply in Tripoli is generally good, but you might want to bring a couple of voltage regulators for your goodies and UPS for your 'puter

Yep - that's a good find, it'll work well with most non-heavy duty electricals - computer, screen, hifi etc
