Moving to Diani Beach

Hello!

My husband and I are from the US but have lived abroad for quite some time. We have enjoyed vacationing in Diani Beach for the past 6 years. Is there much of an expat community in Diani Beach, Kenya?

Also, we are looking for an apartment or home. Where should we start? Looking at realators and not sure who to go with. Also, is it a possibility for foreigners to get a mortgage? We have most in cash at this point but would need to finance a small portion.

Any thoughts on location?

Foreigners can get a mortgage, to the best of my knowledge. Have looked into it in the past and wasn't told 'no'. Whether or not you will need a Kenyan bank account, I am unsure about, as we had one when we were looking into mortgages. It has become more difficult than it used to be to open a local bank account as a foreigner.

Mortgage interest rates are around 15%.
