London: About to take the plunge!

ScarletLark

Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Kristine & I'm a confessed anglophile.  I'm the sort of person people question the origins of.  There have been occasions when I've been out of California -- out-of-state and out of the country -- when I've had to convince people that I'm from LA!  I mean, c'mon, do I have to say "like" five more times in a sentence to prove it?!  A Scotsman in Disney World once refused to believe I was even from the US.  (Though I'm really not sure what compelled him to think that way... Strange.)

My parents, too, are convinced I was born in the wrong country - or maybe in the wrong century.  What truly pushed me towards the UK in the first place was a sudden affection for Victorian literature, ever since the sixth grade (Great Expectations started it all).

Now that I've just graduated, I suppose I've got the freedom to be a little more geographically flexible.  So... with 11 days remaining, I'll be in London to "seek my fortune" or whatever.  I'll be there for 6 months on the BUNAC scheme, testing the waters... and perhaps I'll find a way to return or extend my stay, if it all works out.

Anyway, I look forward to keeping my blog up-to-date and cutting in on a conversation or two in the forums.

As The Doctor would say: Allons-y Alonzo!

Welcome Kristine!

What is the BUNAC scheme?

I used to live in London and I really like it ... oh I miss this city!

ScarletLark

It's a program that allows current students & recent graduates to work or volunteer in different countries.  In the UK, for example, I'm given a Blue Card that gives me permission to work there for up to 6 months.  BUNAC's full name is The British Universities North America Club.

Welcome Kristine ! :-)

Julien, is it like VIE ?

Julien

VIE is a very specific french contract for graduates, with special conditions. But yes, the idea is pretty much the same: help young people to live a first experience abroad :)

I've got some questions about getting work in London...
