World Cup 2014 Accommodations

If anyone has left it to the last moment to find accommodations in any of the Brazilian cities that will host World Cup matches you're going to have a difficult time of it now. This especially holds true in Rio de Janeiro, where hotels have been booked solid for many months now.

One option that you might want to consider is booking accommodations in other cities a bit removed from Rio which would still be within reasonable travel time from events.

Macaé, to the north of Rio is just such a city and here we have a large supply of accommodations and a low demand, even during World Cup. There are hotels to suit all tastes and budgets, from the 5 Star international hotel chains to more resonably priced mid-sized hotels that offer all the same comforts.

I recently had a meeting with the General Manager of the Hotel du Lac in Macaé (Praia do Pecado) and I was extremely impressed with their facilities and rates. John Russell Miller - General Manager, is a gracious host and prides himself on high standards of customer service.

The hotel has around 125 rooms or more (sorry John I forgot the exact number), the hotel itself sports several rich wood panel walls that are reminiscent of many "gentlemen's clubs". One of the original hotel structures that makes up part of the complex has a beautiful ivy covered exterior. There is a large restaurant with buffet and an excellent a la carte selection. The bar has one of the best selections of Scotch in Brazil as well as other beverages.

Despite the fact that it is located on one of the most desirable beaches in the city, the hotel has a lap pool, which is a rarity anywhere in Brazil. The hotel also has a gym and a game room complete with a full-sized snooker table. It also has conference room facilities for those who may need them.

On one side there are miles of beautiful beach stretching in either direction from the hotel and on the other side there is the most incredible view of the Lagoa de Imboassica. For anyone coming to Brazil for the World Cup, this hotel certainly would be a great option if you're looking for last minute accommodations.
