Which country to move to? (young & idealistic)

zachws

Hey all,
I am a 20 year old American college student. I am planning on moving to Western Europe when I graduate in a couple of years. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to live? Right now I am thinking London suburbs mostly. But I am curious about "Black Paris", the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland. Any suggestions?

I am 'African-American' so I am interested in racial relations. Please feel free to offer suggestions outside of Western Europe if you really love a place.

Things I like:
Socialized Medicine
Racial Calm
Aesthetic beauty/ natural or old fashioned or both
Low taxes :)
High standard of living :)
Somewhat English speaking; I'm also familiar with Spanish and French

Thanks everyone.

Welcome to the site.

I can recommend both London and The Netherlands but mainly because I come from London and live in The Netherlands. I really enjoy living in The Netherlands (even if the Dutch can be a little awkward sometime).

Are willing to go to a place, even though there's no "Black culture" around it?

I am in love with Europe at present, but yes, I am looking for a place to live that is lovable for reasons outside of whether the people have developed enough to get along fantastically.

What do you suggest? Right now I am leaning towards the Netherlands, but still going to check out English rural areas perhaps, maybe even Ireland, Scotland or Wales...

If you've got precise questions about european countries, you should ask them in the "living in Europe forum" ;)

Hi Zachws,

Both Paris and London seem to be good choices.
I live in London, my partner is from the Caribbean. You can find here people from all over the World and personally we did not meet with any race related problems. The same is in Paris and probably many other large / multicultural cities.

Greetings, Margot
