Cost of living in petaling jaya (Kuala lumpur)

Hello everyone
I was wondering about the lowest cost of living, (except for rent) for two, in petaling jaya (Kuala lumpur).
Me and my spouse are about to move there in a few months as students, and wanted to know about the costs of living and the least amount of money we need to consider for monthly costs.

Check on Numbeo where you can compare COL with your current residence. Minimum depends on lifestyle but work on the basis of rm 30 per person per day (covering utilities, travel, phone, food)

thank you. and how about the minimum of rent? where can I get the info?

Depending on location. Check iproperty or propertguru. To live in a shared apartment (couples not often welcome) take a look at ibilik.my. Numbeo is the best place to look for a companion to your current costs as for example it will say something like location A is 30% less than KL There is an Iranian Facebook group for selling items in Kl and it includes rental in flat shares. Sorry I don't have the name or link but its name is in Persian. There may be other FB groups for Iranian students in kl

Thanks for the help. can I ask another question as well?
My husband is going to study masters in UM. It is very important to us to know if we are able to continue for PHD in other countries such as Australia, Canada or America in full fund.
do you believe it is a possibility from a Malaysian university?

Don't think there is any way to transfer to another country when completing a PhD. But ask the university for information.

Some foreign universities in Malaysia offer semesters outside Malaysia but UM is unlikely to do so because it is a local university. But just make enquiries openly.

Finding work after studying in Malaysia is almost impossible unless involved in ITC or specialised engineering fields such as aerospace, robotics or AI. So bear that in mind.

When on a student visa working is not permitted either.

so, there is not a possibility to finish Masters in Malaysia and then get scholarship for PHD in another country?

and his field is renewable energies.

The Malaysian government won't give any scholarships to non-Malaysians. UM is a government university not a private one.

Private universities may have split Masters courses and potential for scholarships.

Any PhD scholarship would need to come from a private overseas university directly. If the Masters goes well then it could be possible to apply successfully

I really do suggest you talk to other Iranians in Malaysia to understand the "climate"

Malaysia sees education as a money-making business nothing more. It doesn't invest in people from other countries. People from other Islamic countries do not get any preferential treatment here. To add to that the official religion of Malaysia is not Shi'a.

You gave me a good view over things. Thank you so much.
I've been looking for Iranians in Malaysia for a while now, but unfortunately couldn't find any!
I had some questions regarding embassy as well, but there aren't any Iranians forums that I could find.

There are some on Facebook or I've seen them in the past. They are either for Iranian students or I can remember one that was in Farsi which was for selling items and room rentals. Unfortunately I don't have the links anymore.
