Looking for suggestions - Moving to KL with 2 young babies and a dog

Hi Guys,
We are expecting our second son in few months time and hopefully our move to KL will be done just a month before that.. so wish us luck :) At the moment there are so much to arrange and to read up on KL but as usual when there are more information to read the more confused we get.
So i really hope to get some help from your experience.

What is your suggestions?

1, We like to live not too far from KL ( husband office is in the city ) but far enough to enjoy a nice size house ( dreaming to have a pool which won't cost an arm and a leg ) with a garden for our fur baby. close to shopping mall with a good supermarket ( something like carrefour ? ) mostly expat family living area ( easy to arrange playdate for our babies ) and international kindergarten.

2, We would like to look at hiring a driver and a live in maid. what is the average cost / package ?

3, Should we consider to bring our car into malaysia ? Do you know what's the import tax ? if not, which rental company do you use ?

4, Anyone given birth in Malaysia recently ? which hospital would you recommend ? which is the newest hospital ?

5, How can we check if we have received a fair offer ?

Many thanks in advance

First step is to check how late in a pregnancy the airline you will use will allow you to fly to Malaysia. Probably the most prestigeous hospital is Prince Court, in the heart of KLCC.

Thanks, that i have it covered :) will be flying in before the cut off date.

For houses suggest you take a look at www.iproperty.com.my within your budget. Reasonably close to KLCC is Beverly Heights, Ukay Heights and that sort of area - which is where local wealthy Malaysians live. Otherwise parts of Ampang in the so-called Embassy Quarter may have houses available. There are lots of modern houses around the Tropicana area or some with clubhouse pool etc. in Damansara or Sri Hartamas has free-standing villas with pool. Bukit Tunku is another fine residential area with large villas.

There are long waiting lists to hire live-in staff through agencies but it is possible to do it directly with immigration. It is also possible to bring in a maid you already employ. There are 8 nationalities of ladies who can be maids in Malaysia and the wage structures vary according to their nationality, with Filippina being the highest paid. It is not likely to find live-in help from among the Malaysian population as they prefer to live out.

A driver would be paid from about RM2500 upwards plus overtime. Most often the employer makes these arrangements because of the social security and other deductions that are required and backcharges the employee).

Malaysia has right-hand steered cars. The import tariffs are quite high and the vehicle has to be exported again and not sold on in Malaysia. https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/malays … -a-vehicle - and the import tarifs based on valu are here: http://www.maa.org.my/pdf/duties_taxes_ … hicles.pdf

Car leasing is popular with expats and there are lots of companies including The Expat Car Guys, as well as Mayflower and the usual international companies. The employer may have corporate terms with some providers.

Sometimes Glassdoor is a good way to check the salary ranges. There are also salary surveys which detail the salaries for sectors and positions. Hays, Kelly etc. publishes these online

Hey Gravitas, Many thanks for your useful insight!
