We are hoping to get some answers on what it's like to live in Mont Kiara. We love the neighborhood and were originally just moving with our two dogs (one is a teacup yorkie who frequently barks and the other is a kind but giant rhodesian ridgeback). But, we now decided we are also moving 2 kids to MKIS. One will be entering high school and the other will be in middle school.
Here are our questions:
What is MKIS like? Is it strong academically and do students usually end up in top tier American universities and colleges? What are the students like - their attitude and behavior? Is there a stigma attached to these MKIS students?
What is it like having dogs in the neighborhood? Especially one that can be yappy and the other one is very large. The large one is around 110 pounds, but she is a gentle giant. We do not want to offend anyone or get in trouble. We also read around that dogs would have to get their vocal chords cut out - we would not want to do this. We plan to live in a bungalow instead of an apartment, but we do not want our neighbors getting us in trouble. What is the reputation attached to bungalows?
Please, if anyone's out there, answer! We are planning to move by June 2014 so we need to know answers asap so we can plan accordingly.
Mont Kiara - Dogs and MKIS
Rent a house, but an owner may not give permission to have pets. If you try to rent a condo in MK with a yappy dog you will be kicked out and loose your deposit of 2 1/2 months rent. The neighbours will complain within about a week and you will be photographed by security and others and reported.

There is no public transport in MK, so at least you wont break the law using it (yes its the law here). There are no problems if you live in a bungalow, but dog noise may bring unwanted attention and angry neighbours.. But you may not be able to afford to live in one in MK as there are not many houses and they are expensive to rent. Houses don't have much land and some have adjoining walls. It might be better to look for a landed property so you have more privacy and space.
If you have only read about MK on the internet, you should visit and see if you really want to live there. Normally it is a compromise because kids are in school. Others do not live there as it is a bit of a concrete jungle and not very attractive in many parts. It has a huge overpass of the N/S highway right on top of it and lots of traffic noise from stopping and revving at the Toll Plaza. Traffic is bad nearly all the time and worse at school run and rush hour times. There is no public transport so you are isolated in MK and would need a car per adult to get around.

The problem with Mont Kiara is that even the bungalows come under a Management Committee, so whether you live in a bungalow in Mont Kiara or a condominium, if your dog yaps and it disturbs the neighbours the Management will make a complaint to the authorities and your dogs will need to be removed. Condominiums also have strict rules about having no pets, and even if they allow it, it should be one dog only and it must not yap. Sometimes allowing a dog is up to the discretion of the MC. Please note also that not all landlords are prepared to rent their property to tenants with dogs. So if you are bringing dogs then maybe it is better to live outside of Mont Kiara.
Don't really know much about MKIS except that lots of expats who's package includes schooling will send their kids there. However, there are a lot of international schools in KL, so it's worth to do the research.
