The NYLJ also reports there's a ratio of 1 attorney for every 21 people in NYC. There are a total of 142,599 attorneys in New York State.

There is not mandatory bar membership in NYC, but the local bar (the Association of the Bar of the City of New York) says it has 23,000 members. Of course, you don't have to actually live or work in NYC to be a member of this association.

Peux tu expliquer ce qu'est une capacité en droit en France?
Les avocats aux US ont un diplome niveau doctorat appelé JD. ils s'obtient après 7 ans d'etudes ( le Bachelor degree de 4 ans dans un domaine quelconque tel que journalisme, lettres, langues etc; et l'ecole de droit pendant 3 ans).

Ensuite il y a des formations paralegales de 2 ou 3 ans dans les universités ou community college, si je ne me trompe pas.
