Hi All,

I'm moving to the North in few weeks (Braga for the first month, and then somewhere north from there).

Let me sketch out my situation:
- no knowledge of Portuguese (will get a course from employer)
- remote work over internet, so can be in rural areas, but need good NOS mobile network coverage
- looking to do fly fishing and bouldering in nearby area
- need to purchase either a bicycle or an ebike/moped to move around (no driving license)
- will likely need to purchase some house utilities and fly fishing equipment, as bringing my own may not be worth the expense.

I am open to any suggestions in relation to the above, but let me specify:

1. What are the best websites to look for a flat? I'm looking through olx, imovirual, and idealista mainly. Thinking Facebook might have good groups? What should I be careful about? I prefer rural areas, for the peace and prices. With regard to network coverage, I have this map to help me orient about. Would you consider it reliable?
2. Fly fishing is my passion, so if any of you are into it, let's get in touch. I want to fish on rivers Cavado or Lima. Meanwhile, I was looking around on olx for used gear, and it seems quite expensive for an area where this culture should be quite developed. What am I missing? Are there good second-hand/pawn shops to get that stuff in Braga or Porto? I'm also confused about permits - I found this site, that leads to this one, but it's offline.
3. Bouldering. I know this site, but am open to suggestions.
4. Bike/moped. Been going through olx and custojusto. For more expensive options I would prefer the option of spreading it over monthly payments.
5. Camping. Is it allowed and safe? What are rules on making bonfires?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Network coverage:

National Communications Authority (Anacom) has made available the application 'tem.REDE?', which allows to check network coverage of telecom operators MEO, NOS and Vodafone in Portugal.

Hello,
Hope you settle okay in Braga. There seem to be sports facilities and things to do in Braga, which is not really the case in local towns and villages in rural Portugal. I findrural Portugal to be inept. As for fishing there are many good places to fish in north Portugal but s/h equipment is as you say expensive. It seem to me it does not matter what you buy in Portugal from a s/h car to a s/h fishing rod, you pay 50 to 55% of the price of a new item. Portuguese people tend to set a price and will not bargain or haggle. They just set the price and if it does not sell they putit back in the garage for another ten years before bringing out again. If you want bargains go over the border to Spain where both new and s/h items are much cheaper than in Portugal. As for camping, unlike Spain where you can camp virtually anywhere, it is illegal to camp in Portugal except on official campsites. Do not be tempted to do so as if caught expect a large fine from the police. Bonfires are officially illegal in all E.U. member states since 2006 but in Portugal the government have illegally ignored this law. Bonfires in Portugal are allowed in the winter and spring up to a date that is published in the local newspapers and municipals, provided you telephone and inform the municipal in advance and not in the summer or autumn. Portugal are not very good at advertising the nice places to go to. You just have to ask around and get information by word of mouth.
